Overview

The Augusta County Library Board seeks an energetic, creative, and skilled leader to serve as the Library Director for the Augusta County Library system located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Seven library locations serve a population of 78,000. The Library is a consortium member (TLC Library Solution) and has a circulation of 519,000. There are nineteen full-time employees and sixteen part-time employees; multiple volunteers, operating on a $2.2 million+ budget. Responsibilities

The successful candidate will need to possess dynamic leadership ability, strategic planning experience, hands-on management knowledge, staff development commitment, and excellent verbal and written skills; and a willingness to work in concert with the Library Board, Staff, County Administrator, and Friends of the Library. The primary duties of the position include working with staff to meet strategic plan goals, technology planning and enhancement, facilities management, fostering a creative and patron-focused staff, and the ability to inspire community support.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a Masters of Library Information Services (MLIS) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program; six or more years of professional library experience, including at least three years of increasingly greater library administrative responsibilities. The Director shall be certified to practice as a Professional Librarian in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Candidates shall hold a Commonwealth of Virginia Librarian's Professional Certificate or have the ability to secure certification if hired.
