Southside Medical Center, Inc. was founded in 1967 as the Atlanta Southside Comprehensive Health Center. We are a non-profit Medical Center that provides primary health care and related services to the medically underserved and uninsured. SMC has been nationally recognized by the National Association of Community Health Centers for having one of the best primary health care delivery systems for the medically underserved in the country.

SMC has 11 locations across the state of Georgia. Our main Center is located near the Georgia State Football Stadium in Fulton County. We also have two other locations in Fulton County; one at Dobbs Elementary School and the other in East Point. We have two locations in Dekalb County on Gresham Road and in Decatur, and three locations in Clayton County in Lovejoy, Riverdale and Forest Park. One location in Gwinnett County in Norcross, a location in both Spalding and Butts Counties, and our newest location in Duluth.

Position Summary

Reports to the Chief Medical Officer. Performs, but not limited to the following tasks :

• JOB TITLE : OBSTETRICIAN / GYNECOLOGIST

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION :

Responsible to the Lead Provider; performs professional health services, such as examining and treating expectant mothers and aids in diagnoses, management and care of gynecological diseases within a comprehensive health center setting.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF POSITION DUTIES

1. Examines and aids in the determination of pregnancies; serves as a consultant in pre-natal care; aids in the diagnoses and management of gynecological diseases; plays active role in family planning; consults with team physician and medical specialists in conferences involving specific cases.

2. Monitors the quality and quantity of patient care by the R.N.P. in collaboration with the Chief of Nursing.

3. Guides the nurse practitioner in the management of normal antepartal patients.

4. Performs related work as required and other duties as assigned by the Lead Provider.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES CON’T :

1. Ability to diagnose.

2. Ability to examine and treat expectant mothers.

3. Ability to communicate.

4. Ability to be sensitive.

5. Ability to provide follow-up and referrals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

M.D. degree with specialization and residency in OB / GYN; plus one (1) year of experience in health care setting. Must hold current Georgia license. Current D.E.A. certificate.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Requires exposures to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. Requires working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS :

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
