Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Counselor - Specialist at the YMCA of Northern Utah maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families. This is a seasonal position.
Mill Hollow :
Before the season starts, counselors will be assigned into their specialized areas. The specialized areas are : Adventure (2 openings), Archery, Arts and Crafts, Bushwack, Gardening, and Sports.
Camp Roger :
Before the season starts, counselors will be assigned into their specialized areas. The specialized areas are : Orienteering, Archery, Arts and Crafts, Outdoor Cooking, STEM, Mountain Biking, Theatre, Nature, Survival, and Circus.

Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains as high quality curriculum that promotes safety, engagement, connection and creativity with all age groups the camp serves
Curriculum will be based on specialty area requirements
Work alongside a Cabin Leader to care for and supervise a group of children each weekCurriculum for the program must relate to the environment camp is set inAdvise Camp leadership on any nature equipment / supplies that are neededConduct regular inventory checks to ensure enough program supplies are ready for any given camp sessionFollows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program recordsNurtures youth through purposeful programming; plans activities that are intended to achieve program goals and outcomes, are culturally relevant, are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y's valuesCreates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactionsProvides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program and provides daily opportunities for youth to reflect on and respond to their experiencesProvides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress; connects families to the YAttends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainingWork alongside entire camp staff to clean the facility after each week of program ends, tend to cleanliness of facility as neededPerforms other duties as assignedThis is not an exhaustive list of job duties. High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferredMeets minimum age standards as established by state law and / or the YCPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required; will be provided in training if candidate does not have current certificationPrevious experience working with children in a camp setting preferredPrevious experience in one or more areas of camp programmingPrevious experience working with diverse populationsAbility to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgroundsCommitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)Benefits
