Job Description
The K – 12 Athletics Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition – ensuring all student athletes develop an appreciation of the sport. We are currently seeking outstandingathletics coaches in the following disciplines :

Compensation : The School District of University City offers a competitive stipend for all athletics coaches, contingent upon the grade level and experience.
Exempt : Professional Exemption
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- MSHAA coaching certification, MO teaching certificate preferred
- Current First Aide and CPR certification
- Mentoring or coaching experience or equivalent in a diverse educational environment
- Mentoring or coaching experience or equivalent in community or civic athletics programs
- Superior interpersonal skills required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standardHolds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sportAssesses player’s skills and assigns team positionsDevelops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team developmentWorks with the athletics director in scheduling facilities for practices and competitionCoaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sportDetermines game strategy based on the team’s capabilitiesEstablishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all timesModels professional and ethical standards when dealing with student athletes, parents, peers, and communityEstablishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with student athletes, parents, staff, administration and the communityFollows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injuryConferences with parents / guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their studentsFollows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic programModels sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectatorsActs as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizationsFollows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniformsWorks with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the seasonParticipates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assembliesMaintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related recordsPerforms other related duties as assigned by the athletics director and building administrationPERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES
Knowledge of Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHAA) requirements and guidelines.Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervisionAbility to communicate effectively, verbally and in writingKnowledge of effective multi-tasking and organizational skillsAbility to utilize information / communication technology to enhance the athletics program.Ability to diffuse and avoid non-productive conflict with parents, students, staff and administration.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
