About the Job :
Liturgical Press seeks a strategic and dynamic Development & Fundraising Manager with the experience and enthusiasm to establish a new fundraising office for the Press. A resourceful self-starter who thrives on creating new initiatives and opportunities, the Development & Fundraising Manager serves as a champion for driving the fundraising goals of the Press and stewards its various stakeholders. Reporting to the Director of Liturgical Press, this individual is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining the organization's overall fundraising strategy, achieving short- and long-term development objectives, and actively engaging with donors, partner organizations, the Liturgical Press leadership team and various stakeholders within the wider Saint John's community.
The Development & Fundraising Manager is excited to connect the Benedictine story and mission of Liturgical Press with people who want to make a difference. While keeping abreast of influences in the current ecclesial environment and fundraising best practices, the Development & Fundraising Manager supports the authentically centrist Catholic, Benedictine mission of the Press. By creating and promoting a vibrant and vigorous fundraising program with measurable targets, the Development & Fundraising Manager supports the established mission and business goals of Liturgical Press and furthers its ability to serve the needs of the church community and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Strategy : development goals, opportunity discovery, relationship building
1. Communicates with the Liturgical Press director and leadership team to collaboratively set development strategy and goals for the organization.
2. Supports the Director of the Press by enthusiastically spearheading outward-facing strategies, identifying particular touchpoints and opportunities for the Director to pursue, while following through on all other leads.
3. Develops strategies for long-term development expansion by identifying and assessing how to grow development revenue through various channels such as major gifts and individual giving, foundations, planned giving, campaigns and appropriate grant potential.
4. Implements each step of development strategy for the organization, updating the plans as needed to achieve fund-raising goals.
5. Researches prospective donors while cultivating relationships with individual donors and potential partner organizations.
6. Brainstorms and implements programs and initiatives to engage the broader Liturgical Press audience through fundraising opportunities.
Implementation : managing daily development activities
1. Maintains an annual calendar that coordinates regular ask cycles and special ask opportunities, closely aligning the Liturgical Press marketing and promotion plans.
2. Meets regularly with marketing director to assess and review activities and relevant scheduling plans.
3. Manages donor and stakeholder communication and collateral materials, collaborating with Liturgical Press staff when needed. Works to keep collateral materials and message fresh and engaging to donors.
4. Calls and emails donors on a regular basis, with at least 15-18 documented meetings per month with donors.
5. Drafts all fundraising documents, collaborating with the Director to shape messaging.
6. Manages donor database and ensures that accurate records of donations, visits, prompt gift acknowledgements and that contacts are tracked and updated.
7. Meets regularly with business manager Director of Finance regarding funds received, data overlaps, audits and reporting, etc.
8. Meets regularly with the Director of the Press to review priorities, maintain goals and communicate the status of various activities.
9. Cultivates and champions a fundraising mentality among the Liturgical Press staff through regular updates and communication.
Campaigns / Special Initiatives : activities outside the annual fundraising plan
1. Identities, develops and implements campaigns and major gift programs, cultivating relationships with various stakeholders to ensure progress and collaboration across the broader Saint John's organization.
2. Communicates regularly with the Friends of Liturgical Press group, encouraging and cultivating existing as well as prospective members.
3. Finds appropriate grant opportunities. Carries out activities needed to secure grants, monitor budget and ensure timely grant reporting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
1. Bachelor's degree in related field with five years development (or equivalent) experience.
2. Thorough knowledge and understanding of Catholic language, symbols and practice.
3. Enthusiastic people-person who enjoys meeting and interacting with potential donors.
4. Deep understanding of nonprofit development strategies.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals that reflect the core mission and message of Liturgical Press.
6. Background in fundraising best practices as well as donor databases and software platforms.
7. Able to work independently with initiative.
8. Able to collaborate effectively, manage resources, implement projects, report results.
9. Ability and willingness to travel as needed (donor visits and events, conventions, continuing education, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
1. Demonstrated management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
2. Demonstrated strong analytical skills in financial management and significant experience in managing information systems.
3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
4. Exceptional interpersonal skills.
5. Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills.
6. Strong software skills, e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva.
7. Desire and ability to create and foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
