About the Role
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) will be responsible for leading the organization's transition from research‑driven beginnings toward becoming a revenue‑generating technology leader, defining and executing a commercialization roadmap that turns R&D into scalable, marketable products. You’ll oversee both hardware and software engineering teams (including applications, research, and manufacturing capabilities), aligning technology strategy with business objectives, investor expectations, and market opportunities. You’ll be responsible for setting the technical vision, spearheading productization efforts, managing the monetization of hardware IP, and scaling operations — in particular building out infrastructure like a Quantum Data Centre if relevant, while ensuring engineering excellence, quality standards, and time to market. Acting as a bridge between deeply technical teams, senior leadership, and external stakeholders (e.g. investors), you’ll ensure clear communication, trade‑offs are well managed, and resources are used efficiently to support growth and innovation.
Ideal candidates should have senior leadership experience in deep tech fields (e.g. quantum computing, semiconductors, AI, photonics or similarly complex systems), with a strong track record of turning advanced R&D into commercially viable products. Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary engineering organizations (dozens to hundreds of people), managing both hardware and software product streams, is essential. You’ll need excellent strategic thinking, product / technology commercialization experience, and comfort in navigating between technical execution and business strategy. Strong stakeholder management with executives, boards, investors is important, as is the ability to influence and guide culture while respecting existing strengths. Advanced technical understanding, proven delivery of large‑scale projects, and evidence of driving revenue or impact from technical assets are also expected.
