Job Summary
The High Voltage Superintendent in our Utility Solar Division ensures profitability and success in high-voltage solar projects by managing high standards in safety, compliance, project quality, and manpower. This position oversees field operations, develops and supports Foremen and General Foremen, and collaborates closely with customer site Superintendents to ensure successful project execution.
Essential Responsibilities
- Leadership & Development : Mentor and support Foremen and General Foremen to develop skills necessary for higher-level promotion, ensuring they understand and follow Baker Electric's standards and project specifications.
- Project Oversight : Manage high-voltage construction activities in utility solar projects, including supervising crews, maintaining close contact with job site Superintendents, and ensuring that construction complies with engineered drawings, specifications, contract documents, and building codes.
- Safety & Compliance : Enforce OSHA 30 standards and CAL-OSHA requirements, provide safety training, ensure compliance with job safety and company policies, and report injuries.
- Production Management : Implement and monitor efficient production practices to meet project schedules and budgets, oversee manpower requirements, approve overtime, and manage the hiring, dismissal, and movement of personnel between projects.
- Quality Control : Ensure all construction meets standards, inspect ongoing work, address quality issues, and implement best practices in material handling, storage, and installation.
- Project Coordination : Identify and resolve drawing conflicts, differing job conditions, or scheduling issues with Foremen; if needed, escalate issues through Project Management.
- Budget & Labor Management : Monitor the Labor Variance Report for each project to ensure adherence to budget and manage crew rate budgets effectively. Provide cost and man-hour estimates as necessary.
- Prefabrication & Tool Management : Review opportunities for prefabrication, oversee proper use of tools and equipment, and manage tool inventory, rental procedures, and condition.
- Client Relations : Maintain a cooperative relationship with clients, enforce workmanship standards, and act as the initial point of contact for resolving any construction-related disputes.
- Communication & Problem-Solving : Strong skills in troubleshooting and coordinating with multiple stakeholders on project sites.
- Organizational Excellence : Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Competency : Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, including union regulations, that apply to high-voltage work.
Qualifications
Certification & Experience :IBEW Lineman with completion of a 5-year apprenticeship and at least 10 years of journeyman experience.Minimum of 5-10 years as a Foreman, General Foreman, or Superintendent.Extensive substation experience and proficiency with both overhead and underground Gen-Tie work.Utility solar project experience preferred.NCSCB Cable Splicer Certification.Safety & Compliance : OSHA 30 certification, with additional safety training or certifications preferred.Estimating & Budget Management : Experience in estimating and managing budgets for high-voltage projects.Driving Record : Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.Physical Requirements : Capable of lifting 75 pounds, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and using complex repetitive motions.At Baker, we are proud to be an employee-owned company.
