Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.

The Senior Manager Reliability leads the reliability engineering function within the center for advanced manufacturing research, overseeing a team dedicated to maximizing the performance, dependability, and availability of process and utility equipment supporting pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. This leadership role ensures that all reliability programs and initiatives align with the organization's goals for safety, quality, innovation, and operational excellence, directly impacting the delivery of novel medicines for clinical trials.

Responsibilities :

  • Direct the strategic development and implementation of reliability programs to support advanced manufacturing research and ensure the highest standards of equipment performance, safety, and compliance.
  • Overall ownership and responsibility for system and equipment reliability programs for all Lilly Medicine Foundry (LMF) assets.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of reliability engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical excellence.
  • Ensure robust monitoring, reporting, and analysis of equipment performance data to proactively identify trends, implement corrective actions, and prevent potential reliability issues.
  • Support cross-functional teams within manufacturing and research by ensuring all equipment and utilities enable uninterrupted, high-quality, and compliant pharmaceutical development.
  • Champion health, safety, environmental, and cost optimization objectives as part of overall reliability strategy.
  • Engage with external partners, conferences, and training opportunities to keep the organization at the forefront of reliability engineering advancements.
  • Ensure performance and corrective action of root cause failure analysis on systems and components.
  • Perform all supervisory tasks including performance management activities for reliability engineers and technicians.
  • Ensure oversight of the mechanical integrity program for LMF.
  • Align the local reliability program with Lilly's global reliability program through the Engineering Technology Center (ETC), while also allowing flexibility and adaptability of the Foundry's critical assets.
  • Leverage new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) in order to drive innovation in the reliability arena by identifying data trends and enabling predictive / proactive maintenance best practices.

Basic Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field
  • Professional experience in reliability engineering or a related field, proven leadership and people management skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in equipment reliability programs, predictive maintenance, and advanced analytical methods.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Additional Preferences :

  • Certified Reliability Engineer or Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional
  • Strong knowledge of Maximo / GMARS and Business Objects
  • Strong knowledge of FDA GMPs, ISO standards, deviation management and change controls
  • Knowledge of automation systems / software to facilitate data collection (e.g., data historians)
  • Training in RCM, FMEA, and / or RCFA facilitation
  • Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Knowledge of Weibull analysis, Life Cycle Cost analysis, TPM practices
  • Other Information :

  • Initial location at Lilly Technology Center, Indianapolis.
  • Permanent location at the new Lilly Medicines Foundry in Lebanon, Indiana.
  • Must be available to provide leadership and guidance outside of standard working hours when necessary, including on-site presence for critical incidents.
  • Willingness to travel offsite to support the business, attend external conferences, or participate in specialized training as required.

    Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is $99,000 - $145,200. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees.
