Job Overview :
- Job Duties include triage of specimens including proper identification and computer data entry; assists Pathologist in the Gross Room including the performance of frozen sections and accurate set-up of tissue specimens;
- operates and services equipment according to manufacturer's recommendation; transports specimens from and performs frozen sections at ancillary sites;
- processes, embeds, and cuts tissue specimen; performs routine and special stains; maintains QC and workload data; maintains a clean work area;
sends specialized testing out to reference labs; maintains archival slide / block files; and troubleshoots issues.
Must have an understanding of Histology, Anatomy, and Immunohistochemical procedures. Must be familiar with and follow all safety procedures.
Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to access the data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to the patient's age, specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
Required Certifications / Licenses :
- High school diploma or GED
