Job description

Patient Care Technician

Join our team as a part-time Patient Care Technician! Are you passionate about making a difference in patients' lives? We are looking for a dedicated Patient Care Technician to join our dynamic 6A Ortho / Neuro / Trauma Unit. Scheduling requirements include availability for rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. The position offers opportunities for growth, with a clear career ladder from Nursing Assistant to Patient Care Technician - Lead. A starting pay rate of $18.40 / hour for Nursing Assistants is offered, based on experience and qualifications.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Basic patient care
  • Point-of-care testing
  • Vital signs
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Specimen collection
  • The role may also involve advanced skills like phlebotomy, IV removal, and EKGs, depending on department needs.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must also have at least one of the below :
  • One year of general healthcare experience
  • 6 months of experience as UPMC Nursing Assistant / CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire / transfer / promotion
  • Enrollment in a nursing program with completion of at least 1 clinical rotation required
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
  • Nursing Students or those with EMT experience preferred

    • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Clearances with renewal :
  • Act 31
  • Act 33
  • Act 34
  • Act 73
