Advanced Practice Provider - Ambulatory Otolaryngology (Rhinology)

Overview

The University of Virginia Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Rhinology team within the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. The APP will work alongside two rhinology specialists and will care for adult and pediatric otolaryngology patients. The rhinology team provides evaluation, diagnosis, management and treatment of diseases of the nose and sinuses, including chronic and recurrent sinusitis, nasal polyps, rhinitis, allergy, epistaxis, smell and taste disorders, cerebrospinal fluid leaks, pituitary and skull base surgery, and tumors of the nose and sinuses.

This is a clinical position with both independent and team-based care, with pathway toward increased autonomy based on training and competency. The successful applicant will work independently and with attending physicians to evaluate and manage patients in ambulatory settings and coordinate multidisciplinary care with ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and other specialties as needed. The role offers opportunity to develop deep expertise in complex nose and sinus diseases and skull base conditions within an academic and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care at an advanced practice level to patients and families through assessment, communication, clinical management, collaboration, coordination, education, program development, research, quality, professional development, and system participation.
• Independently treat a wide range of nasal and sinus conditions in patients of all ages; perform and document histories and physical exams, order tests, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications.
• Conduct new patient evaluations, medical and surgical follow-ups, and symptom-based consultations.
• Maintain exceptional communication with patients, team members, and otolaryngology colleagues.
• Engage in self-motivated learning and participate in process and quality improvement initiatives.
• Educate and counsel patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, postoperative care, and preventive care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care coordination with ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and other specialties.
• Engage in quality improvement activities and practice-based learning.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
• Participate in clinical teaching of medical students and residents as appropriate.
• Perform minor procedures including : rigid nasal endoscopy; debridement / biopsy; epistaxis management; flexible laryngoscopy; cerumen removal; ear wick placement / removal.

Qualifications

Required : Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) program. Current national certification and eligibility for Virginia licensure. BLS certification.

Preferred : Experience in ENT, primary care, or a surgical subspecialty is helpful, but new graduates are welcome to apply and will receive structured onboarding and training. Demonstrated understanding of healthcare systems, leadership abilities, and experience with quality improvement efforts.

Additional Information

Anticipated working hours are approximately Monday–Friday, 8 : 00 a.m.–5 : 00 p.m., with potential for future adjustments. No call and no additional daytime shifts at this time.

Position Details

Position Compensation Range : $96,907.20 – $155,043.20 annually.
