Position Summary

The Commercial Resilience Engineer plays a key role at IBHS, bridging the gap between structural engineering and risk reduction. This position leads the technical and operational aspects of IBHS's FORTIFIED Commercial and FORTIFIED Multifamily designation programs, which are nationally recognized standards that set engineering-based requirements for stronger, more resilient buildings. Key Responsibilities include overseeing program operations, conducting compliance reviews, integrating research into standards, responding to technical inquiries, delivering training, supporting member companies with performance assessment, representing IBHS as a subject-matter expert, and promoting resilient design and structural engineering innovation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, mechanical, or architectural engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in structural design and analysis.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software systems, including proprietary platforms supporting FORTIFIED Designations.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials (concrete, steel, timber, masonry).
  • Strong understanding of structural loads, pressures, and their effects on building performance.
  • Proficient in wind design calculations (ASCE 7-10 / 7-16), International Building Code (IBC) application, natural hazard mitigation strategies, and engineering analysis.
  • Soft Skills

    Working Conditions

This position may require travel up to 25%.
