Job description

Join us as a Community Center Coordinator at The Salvation Army USA Central Territory

Position Summary : The Community Center Coordinator will be responsible for developing and implementing programs for youth and adults, benefiting their emotional, physical, and spiritual health. They will work to develop volunteer and employee leaders to work in all phases of the Community Center youth and adult-oriented programs, building bridges between community needs and Salvation Army resources.

Responsibilities :

  • Creatively plan, develop, and implement programs in response to community needs, including structured recreation, leagues and tournaments, unstructured recreation, after-school programs, summer day camp, and special interest groups.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Community Center.
  • Develop and maintain personal involvement with Community Center program participants to build relationships and share the Gospel.
  • Plan, lead, and execute the Summer Day Camp, including monitoring the budget and keeping necessary records.
  • Promote youth and adult ministry programs throughout the community.
  • Work with Corps Officers to develop and coordinate rental agreements for outside groups.
  • Assist Corps Officers in conducting the Christmas campaign, including special dinners and other programs.
  • Work with Corps Officers, volunteers, and other staff to help the Corps fulfill its mission, including assisting with other activities as needed.
  • Assist with casework in the Food Pantry, including packing food for clients, maintaining a clean environment, and keeping Corps Officers aware of pantry stock.

Qualifications :

  • Education / Experience : Bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education or child development, or 480 hours of working in that field.
  • Language Ability : Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions, correspondence, and memos, and effectively present information to program participants, parents, and staff.
  • Math Ability : Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer skill : Knowledge of word processing software.
