Job Details
Licensed Practical Nurse responsible for basic nursing duties including execution of physician orders, operation of pill call, sick call, assisting physician in examinations and treatments, and performing technical / clinical procedures within license scope.
Assist in professional management of facility medical department.
Apply nursing skills in care and treatment of inmates / residents.
Attend sick call with physician, prepare list of inmates / residents to be examined, prepare examining room and equipment.
Operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as per policies / procedures.
Control medication, syringes, medical supplies / equipment and inventory as per procedures.
Perform emergency procedures as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work area.
Document and report activities including medical file documentation as per policies / procedures.
Assist supervisor in evaluating medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records.
Observe and record inmate / resident behavior.
Inspect medical unit for contraband items; securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.
Prepare and maintain various records, reports, and logs; process reports and documents timely.
Read, comprehend, and interpret medical / technical procedures, regulations, and documents.
Respond to lawsuits via corporate counsel; attend court hearings; conduct chart research; review status of inmates / residents with serious health problems.
Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates / residents, visitors, and public, using tact and good judgment.
Help evaluate and recommend physical safety requirements for safe working environment.
Facilitate accreditation of medical program (NCCHC / ACA / JCAHO) by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take action in serious / unusual incidents and emergencies.
Escort or coordinate movement of inmates / residents for medical treatment.
Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries accurately; gather information and evidence; exercise independent judgment for disciplinary action.
Work in confined areas, rotating shifts; physically check security of doors, windows, and other areas.
Be aware of potential verbal abuse in hostile environment.
