The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Science Division seeks an innovative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position. The selected individual will provide high-quality instruction and contribute to the academic, professional, and institutional life of the college. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, equity, student success, and collaborative governance.
Representative Duties: The following duties are typical of those performed by faculty in this classification. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
- Teach assigned lectures, skills labs, and clinical courses in the psychiatric technology program in a manner consistent with the department's standards and content cited in the approved course outline of record, to a diverse student population.
- Acquire and maintain education and skills necessary for competency to teach any course in psychiatric technology.
- Teach, supervise and evaluate students in theory and clinical settings and serve as the liaison with professionals in the clinical setting.
- Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction through clinical experience, professional development and application of technology to education.
- Maintain Current Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technology licensure
- Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program.
- Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
- Participate in the formulation and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
- Maintain formal office and campus hours and participate in department and division meetings.

Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students. - Work cooperatively with staff and students.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: (To be specified in accordance with California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office Faculty Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
OR
Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment;
OR
Possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
OR
The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic,cultural,disability,andethnicbackgroundsofcommunitycollegestudents, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
AND ALL OF THE FOLLOWING: Instructor: An instructor in a psychiatric technician program shall have had or be currently attending a course in teaching and shall meet the requirements of subsection (A) or (B) below:
(A) Registered Nurse
1. Hold or be eligible for a current California active license as a Registered Nurse; and
2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full- time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
3. Have a minimum of 2 years' experience as a registered nurse or licensed psychiatric technician within the last 5 years.
(B) Licensed Psychiatric Technician
1. Hold or be eligible for a current active California license as a psychiatric technician; and
2. Hold a baccalaureate degree from an approved school; or a valid teaching credential; or have completed a minimum of one year full- time teaching experience in a state approved registered nursing or vocational or practical nursing, or psychiatric technician school within the last five years; or met community college or state university teaching requirements in California; and
3. Have a minimum of two years' experience as a psychiatric technician within the last five years.
Desired Qualifications: - At least one year of teaching experience at a community college.
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and equity-minded teaching practices, evidenced by experience implementing instructional strategies, curriculum design, or student support activities aimed at improving outcomes and reducing equity gaps for racially minoritized student populations within Psychiatric Technology or related disciplines.
- Demonstrated leadership experience and/or active participation in community, professional, or discipline-specific organizations, as evidenced by holding formal roles, serving on committees, coordinating initiatives, or contributing to organizational activities.
- Documented experience working in a team-teaching or collaborative instructional environment, including co-planning curriculum, coordinating instruction with faculty colleagues, or participating in interdisciplinary teaching teams.
- Experience designing and implementing alternative or innovative learning activities, such as simulations, case-based learning, or other instructional methods, that support varied learning outcomes and training objectives.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, as evidenced through application materials, teaching statements, and professional correspondence, and evaluated during the interview process.

Employment Requirements Employment Requirements: The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:

CASH IN LIEU BENEFIT The district offers a taxable $250 monthly stipend to a benefits eligible employee who waives medical coverage under SBCCD's group plan because that employee has other group coverage (e.g., a spouse's plan, parents' plan, or other employer's plan).
LIFE INSURANCE Term Life and Accidental, Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance - The district provides a $50,000 basic term life insurance policy and $50,000 of basic accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) policy. The district pays the full cost of this coverage. Coverage is automatic and effective on the first of the month after your date of hire. Employees are also provided opportunity to enroll in optional term life and AD&D policies for themselves as well as spouse/domestic partner and children.

PRE-TAX RETIREMENT SAVINGS PLAN - As a district employee, you have two voluntary retirement savings plans available to you, which allow you to invest pre-tax dollars to supplement your CalPERS Retirement Plan benefit. They are a 403(b) plan or 457(b) plan.
You may participate in one or both of the plans. Each is governed by a different section of the IRS Code resulting in different rules and provisions. SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union is the districts third party administrators for all retirement savings plans.
RETIREMENT PLANS CalPERS Retirement Plan - The California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) is a defined benefit retirement plan that provides lifetime benefits based on members' years of service, age, and final compensation. Full-time employees in non-academic positions appointed for at least six months, or part-time employees working at least 50% and appointed for at least one year, are automatically enrolled in the CalPERS retirement plan.
