About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon Gold District is located in Elko County, northeastern Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981.

The Opportunity

Jerritt Canyon is looking for an Environmental Superintendent to oversee day-to-day environmental compliance activities and projects and fully support the operations divisions in the implementation of the Environmental Management System. The successful candidate will also lead and develop environmental staff to build highly effective teams that enable Jerritt Canyon Gold to achieve strategic goals and its business plan.

Responsibilities

  • Actively manage the RCRA, Title V, Nevada Mercury Control, water pollution control, water rights, and other related programs and compliance mine wide, including overseeing the collection of data necessary, to ensure the accurate and timely reporting to site management and regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate with and continually educate all divisions and departments to ensure alignment on environmental program requirements and support upcoming operational projects. Facilitate positive two-way communication to ensure the team is forward-looking with regard to permitting needs.
  • Engage with and foster a positive working relationship with government agencies at the local and state levels on environmental compliance matters.
  • Lead a team of senior and junior-level professionals; develop staff by setting and maintaining high standards of performance, ensuring quality deliverables, and providing opportunities for growth.
  • Assure compliance with company and site-specific policies, standards, procedures, and objectives associated with site processes, initiatives, and projects, and recommend new policies or procedures, if necessary. Ensure appropriate systems and programs are in place.
  • Ensure operating divisions are educated in compliance and permitting requirements.
  • Prepare, or supervise the preparation of, environmental reports, including observations, analyses of contaminants, and recommendations for control and correction of environmental impacts as needed, that are submitted to local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and to Jerritt Canyon Gold Leadership.
  • Provide support on management of key environmental issues such as water and waste management, hydrology, air quality, biodiversity, reclamation and closure, and contractor management.
  • Develop or contribute to developing the department budget and ensure funds are in place for necessary activities and control costs accordingly.
  • Participate in or lead environmental incident investigations and assist with the development and tracking of remedial action plans.
  • Gather, interpret, and organize information required by environmental permits and other regulatory requirements.
  • Track permit renewals, regulatory proposals, pending legislation, and changing company direction . Ensure appropriate permitting is in place and renewed on time as required.
  • Prepare recommendations for upper management on the implementation of new environmental systems, procedures, or organizational changes.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline such as Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, or other related degree required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years demonstrated environmental experience required.
  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory experience required.
  • Mining experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Nevada mining regulations preferred.
  • Ability to articulate and support Jerritt Canyon Gold's environmental management philosophy both internally and publicly.
  • Ability to drive change required.
  • Possess a sound understanding of company and regulatory environmental policies and objectives, a sense of personal responsibility, and the ability to identify and convey to others the appropriate urgency of environmental matters required.
  • Ability to act in a proactive manner, to anticipate problems, and to solve existing problems within the context of operational requirements and environmental legal constraints required.
  • Ability to listen to opinions and formulate recommendations in a confident and constructive manner is required.
  • Exhibit solid intellectual capability, including strong knowledge of environmental issues within the minerals industry, and a level-headed approach to business required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
