This position provides network-wide human resource support work in the VISN Shared Service Unit (SSU) that entails determining the approach and methods needed to process personnel actions, and ensure related Worklife Benefits, Leave Administration and Reasonable Accommodation functions are completed in a timely fashion.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/12/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6 The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
GS-05 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. This is a entry level, HR Assistant position, that requires general experience, progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. You have knowledge of and a skillset in applying, basic principles and practices of the HR Assistant specialization, sufficient to perform entry-level work designed to develop broader and more in-depth knowledge and skill to perform higher-level assignments
Uses initiative and works independently within the framework established by the Supervisor or Lead in carrying out recurring assignments such as obtaining, inserting, and correcting missing and incorrect data in Worklife Benefits and Reasonable Accommodation files and automated HR systems. Follows established procedures or instructions that specifically describe how the work is to be done and the kind of modifications or exceptions that can be made.
OR Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed four full years of education above high school which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position? This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. For GS-5 level positions, only education more than the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
GS-06 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Ability to communicate ideas clearly both orally and in writing to effectively present findings and advisory opinions. Skill in collecting, analyzing, and organizing technical data. Ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to make informed judgments on problems and issues. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of personnel both internal and external to the agency.
