The Scheduling Coordinator is responsible for managing a system for the scheduling of procedures in a manner that most efficiently utilizes available resources while accommodating the needs of patients, families, and healthcare providers. Responsible for scheduling surgeries and procedures, publishing the daily schedule, and implementing scheduling system changes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
- Maintains the daily census.
- Under direction of the medical staff and clinicians, orders diagnostic work.
- Determines the need for and orders unit supplies from the materials management department.
- Collaborates with all disciplines who provide healthcare and assists them as needed.
- Develops, schedules, and maintains the daily surgical schedule.
- Develops monthly OR, PACU, and anesthesia call schedules and distributes.
- Calculates monthly OR and PACU statistic reports and distributes.
- Maintains block scheduling.
- Types meeting minutes, policies, and other materials as requested.
- Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
- Participates in performance improvement.
- Performs related work as required.
- Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Conducts himself / herself effectively in stressful situations.
- Approaches situations with distressed patients, families and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment.
Education : High School Diploma / GED required
Certification : CPR required
Experience : 1 year computer skill / secretarial skills required.
Additional Experience Preferred
Current knowledge of clinical practice.Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment : copy machine, intercom system, telephones, computer and fax machine.Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingEffectively handles frequent interruptions and distractions.Experience in computer order entry.Medical experience preferred.
