Job Title : Traffic Supervisor

Location : Wixom, Michigan (100% On-site)

Reports to : General Manager

Shift : Full-Time, Day Shift (Typical start 6 : 30–7 : 00 a.m.)

Compensation : $60,000–$80,000 per year + Annual Discretionary Bonus

Our client is one of North America’s largest and fastest-growing privately owned contract manufacturers, producing household cleaning and personal care products for many of the biggest names in retail. The company has a strong presence across multiple facilities, including FDA-regulated operations in the USA and Canada.

Position Summary

The Traffic Supervisor is the nerve center of the facility's logistics operation. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing all inbound and outbound freight (approximately 30-40 loads per day), ensuring every shipment moves on time, in full, and with perfect documentation.

You will lead a small, dedicated dock team and serve as the critical bridge between production, the warehouse, purchasing, and our carrier partners. The ideal candidate is a calm, decisive problem-solver who thrives in real-time coordination and excels at keeping the operation running smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Operations

  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a small dock team of 3-4 employees, fostering a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Conduct daily yard walks to assess trailer status, dock door availability, and staging area capacity.
  • Collaborate daily with production leadership and planners to align shipping priorities with manufacturing output.
  • Oversee dock flow to keep staging areas organized, verify all outbound loads for accuracy, and ensure the dock is clear and prepared for the next day.

2. Carrier & Freight Coordination

  • Manage the daily schedule and flow of 30-40 inbound and outbound truckloads.
  • Schedule all carrier pickups and delivery appointments, managing dock windows effectively.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers and carriers, professionally resolving any on-site issues or delays.
  • Adjust load plans and carrier schedules on the fly to respond to production changes or carrier availability.
  • 3. Systems & Documentation

  • Ensure 100% accuracy of all shipping documentation, including printing Bills of Lading (BOLs) and preparing packing lists.
  • Manage all cross-border documentation for U.S. / Canada shipments, ensuring compliance with commercial invoices, packing lists, and USMCA forms.
  • Maintain shipping data and close out shipments in the company ERP system (Magic).
  • Update customer-specific supplier portals (e.g., Walmart, Sam’s Club, Costco) with Advance Ship Notices (ASNs) and routing information.
  • Qualifications & Ideal Profile

    Required :

  • Experience : 5–10 years of experience in traffic, logistics, or shipping supervision.
  • Volume : Proven experience managing a high-volume dock (comfort with 20-50 truckloads per day).
  • Leadership : Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, and motivate a small dock-side team calmly and clearly.
  • Cross-Border : Fluency in preparing and managing U.S. / Canada shipping documentation (USMCA, commercial invoices, etc.).
  • Systems : Proficiency with an ERP system (SAP, Oracle, Magic, etc.) and experience using customer / supplier portals (e.g., Walmart, Costco, Target).
  • Skills : Direct, professional, and responsive communicator. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm and organized under pressure.
  • Preferred :

  • Background in manufacturing, 3PL (Third-Party Logistics), CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods), or an automotive supplier environment.
  • Success in This Role Looks Like

  • All shipments consistently leave on time and in full.
  • All paperwork and customs documentation are 100% accurate.
  • The dock flow remains organized, safe, and efficient, even during peak times.
  • Carriers are managed effectively and stay on schedule.
  • The General Manager has full confidence that the traffic department is handled reliably and professionally.
