The patient-to-nurse ratio ranges from 1 : 4 to 1 : 5 during the day and 1 : 5 to 1 : 6 at night. The unit is staffed with techs to assist in patient care, with a total of 5 techs available when full. Candidates will utilize equipment such as bipaps, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, Alaris pumps, and various cardiac drips. The documentation system utilized in this unit is Meditech. Schedules consist of three 12-hour shifts a week and include a requirement to work every other weekend. There may be a possibility to float between units or to med-surg floors. Patient experience requirements include hourly rounding on days and every 2 hours on nights. Knowledge of AIDET and maintaining communication boards is essential, as this is a requirement on the unit. The unit performs procedures such as peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and central line dressing changes. Candidates should have experience troubleshooting wound vacs as part of their duties. The unit promotes a self-scheduling model, encouraging a positive work-life balance. Travelers often extend their contracts following their initial assignment due to the supportive culture and teamwork atmosphere.
