Job Description Summary
Wake Forest University's Summer Immersion Program is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced leader to join our team as a Seasonal Summer Residence Life Coordinator (RLC). This vital role is central to ensuring the success, safety, and well-being of high school students residing on campus during the summer program. The RLC plays a leadership role in fostering a positive, safe, and harmonious residential campus culture.

The Residence Life Coordinators will play a vital role in creating and maintaining a positive and constructive campus culture among students and staff. They will ensure safety and security within the residence halls, and effectively manage all daily residential operations, as well as organize, plan, and lead engaging evening activities, workshops, and large-scale residential events for high school participants.

This position requires living in Wake Forest University residence halls with high school students and residential program staff Sunday evening through Friday afternoon for the duration of the program. This role typically requires 40 hours per week, including regular evening shifts. Flexibility is essential to accommodate weekend hours required for student check-in/check-out days and program operation weekends.

Job Description

Essential Functions:
Your summer includes:
  • Making a difference through investing in the lives of motivated high school students.
  • Working on the campus of a nationally known institution, Wake Forest University, while gaining experience in Residence Life.
  • Joining a team of dedicated staff who are passionate about supporting and mentoring high school students.
  • Competitive compensation with meals provided while in session, and private room in residence hall included.
Responsibilities:

1. Residential Life Leadership:
  • Create and maintain a positive and inclusive campus culture for high school students residing in university residence halls.
  • Develop and implement a system for addressing student concerns, ensuring they have a safe, comfortable, and welcoming living environment.
  • Oversee check-in and check-out procedures for students, including room assignments and inventory checks.
  • Conduct regular dormitory inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety standards are met.
2. Safety and Security:
  • Collaborate with campus security and appropriate university personnel to maintain a safe and secure residential environment.
  • Respond to and address any emergency situations or concerns related to the residence halls, including any student health concerns.
  • Enforce program rules and guidelines and provide guidance and support to students in making responsible decisions.
  • Manage a large group of high school students in a residence hall setting and exercise needed authority in all behavioral scenarios.
3. Evening Activities and Workshops:
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee engaging evening activities, workshops, and events with a team of Student Engagement Interns (SEIs) to enhance students' summer experience.
  • Encourage and facilitate student participation in various activities, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie.
  • Assess the impact and success of evening programs and make adjustments as needed.
4. Supervision and Training:
  • Mange a team of up to seven Student Engagement Interns (SEIs), composed of Wake Forest undergraduate students.
  • Provide guidance, support, and ongoing training and check-ins with the SEIs to ensure they effectively assist with program logistics and create a positive community atmosphere.
5. Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, student check-in/check-out records, maintenance requests, and program evaluations.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to address any programmatic, behavioral, social/emotional or operational challenges.
  • Assist with other duties as needed to support the overall success of the Summer Immersion Program.
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field, or a background in teaching middle or high school students.
  • Ability to manage a large group of high school students in a residence hall setting and exercise needed authority in all behavioral scenarios.
  • Ability to manage a team of up to seven undergraduate Student Engagement Interns who will serve in a camp counselor-like role.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities.
  • An enthusiastic, creative, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • A commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
  • Protection of minors training, as well as a clear background check and drug screenings are required for hiring.
Hours:
  • May 2026 - Thursdays from 2:00 - 5:00 pm (Flexible based upon availability)
  • Mandatory RLC Move-In and Residence Hall Prep: May 29, 2026, from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Mandatory Staff Training -
    • June 1 - 5, 2026, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • June/July 2026 -
    • Sundays - 2:00 - 6:00 pm, 8:00 - 11:00 pm
    • Monday - Thursday - 4:00 - 11:00 pm
    • Friday - 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
  • Residence Life Coordinators may request housing for the week of June 28-July 3 ahead of time. Please note that housing costs for this week are NOT covered by this position and are the responsibility of the Residence Life Coordinator.
Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for their own work.
Physical Requirements:
  • May involve frequent walking, standing for extended periods; occasional bending, climbing stairs: lifting moderate weights (up to 20-50 pounds); communicating with others to exchange information; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers; ability to quickly respond to emergencies.
