Pharmacy Technician – Springhill Hospital Location
Southern Cancer Center
Scope of Position:
Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist within a licensed pharmacy, the Pharmacy Technician performs technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control. All tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or pharmacist. This role supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Please note: Specific state laws may restrict certain compounding or mixing responsibilities to licensed individuals.
Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under pharmacist supervision.
- Verify completeness of orders, patient information, and physician authorization.
- Accurately and promptly admix drugs as ordered, following OSHA and internal guidelines.
- Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
- Assist with weekly controlled drug counts and maintain accurate records.
- Properly dispose of materials used in mixing chemo and non-chemo IVs.
- Clean hoods daily, check drugs monthly for outdates, and perform other quality assurance tasks.
- Maintain accurate temperature logs and documentation for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
- Track lot numbers and maintain medication control documentation.
- Support inventory control, prepare labels, file documentation, and assist with billing.
- Perform basic data entry into department automation systems.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Entry-level to three years of experience in a pharmacy setting preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination required.
- Ability to read and note accurate measurements.
- Sitting/standing for extended periods; occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

- Regular exposure to patients and potential contact with toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and chemotherapeutic agents.
