Description
The Violence Recovery Program (VRP) is a grant-funded program within the Behavioral Health department offering services to aged 18+ survivors of Intimate Partner Violence, Sexual Assault, and anti-LGBTQ+ Hate Violence.
Under the direct supervision of an Intern Primary Supervisor and existing leadership within the Behavioral Health Department, the Violence Recovery Program Student Intern provides counseling, support groups, advocacy, and referrals services to those being served by the VRP within the Behavioral Health Department, 24 hours per week for the academic school year from September 8th, 2026 through May 15th, 2027, exact dates depending. Additional hours for onboarding and orientation will be required between the dates of August 31st and September 4th, 2026.
Representative Duties :
Provides direct clinical services to clients :
- Using established therapeutic processes, provides short-term therapy for VRP clients and co-facilitates 1-2 therapy / support groups for VRP / BH clients
- Assists clients in accessing the criminal justice system and / or securing counseling and social services by giving client information and / or contacting service providers directly. Accompanies clients to Court and / or law enforcement appointments, as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains contacts in other assistance agencies; maintains updated referral lists, conducting outreach to service providers and community organizations about VRP services
- Builds a caseload of 10-12 clients overall
- Offers at least one clinical hour in the morning between 8-10 am, or at least 1 clinical hour in the late afternoon / evening (5 or 6 pm), dependent on client need
- All clinical hours must be provided from on-site at 1340 Boylston St., though some of these sessions may be conducted via telehealth
- Adheres to NASW Code of Ethics
Performs and completes clinical documentation / administrative tasks accurately and in a timely manner :
Documents each client interaction, within departmental window of compliance (48 hours), for review and co-signature by Intern SupervisorCompletes session notes, assessments, and discharge summaries according to department standards and in accordance with Fenway policyProvides consultation to, and collaborates with, the other health care providers that constitute a client's health care teamParticipate in Intern Programming :
Participates in regularly scheduled individual supervision, 1 hour per weekIncluding audio / written process recording activities as requestedAttends and contributes to Intern Group Supervision Meeting, 2 hours per weekAttends VRP team meetings, 2 hours per weekParticipates in Fenway Health BH Intern Training Seminars, 1 hour every weekAttends on-site Department Meetings, quarterlyMeets Agency Participatory Expectations

Requirements
Active enrollment in a graduate degree program in related field (e.g. Social Work or Counseling) requiredFlexibility, adaptability, and ability to multitask1 (academic) year of counseling with clients and / or related experience, at minimumSuccessful completion of graduate level course work focused on understanding human behavior, basic counseling theoretical frameworks, and basic diagnostic assessmentsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience working within an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse teamAbility to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individualsAbility to demonstrate emotional regulation of self, foresee impacts of emotional expressions on others (peers, colleagues, and patients), and modulate emotional expression accordingly to support rapport building and professionalism in shared workspacesAbility to receive, process and respond to feedback in both individual and group supervision spacesPreferred Qualifications :
Ability to document timely and accurately in fast-paced environmentsPrevious advocacy / case management experiencePrevious experience in outpatient therapy settingsPrior knowledge of impacts of domestic violence, interpersonal violence, and / or traumaExperience with LGBTQIA+ issues, HIV, and traumaExperience with substance use disorders, short-term interventions, and group workPhysical Requirements :
