Tribal Technical Assistance Center (TTAC) Program Specialist

Position Summary :

Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC) Tribal Technical Assistance Specialist is involved in wide variety of activities in support of Tribal Aging Unit programs including, quality improvement of aging services, technical assistance related to requirements of Older Americans Act (OAA) and the Wisconsin Elders Act (WEA), individual and organizational advocacy, planning for new services, and promotion of existing services and assurance of service quality. In addition, the Specialist is expected to maintain a broad network of Tribal community relationships to assist in the establishment of Evidence-based Health Promotion Programming. Daily attendance is an essential function of this position. Frequent travel is required. This position can be located in one of the following offices : Ashland, WI; Lac du Flambeau, WI; Stone Lake, WI.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities :

• Provide Technical Assistance by maintaining understanding of current policies and procedures related to aging programs, including how these policies and procedures directly affect services to older adults through Title III and Title VI of the Older Americans Act and the Wisconsin Elders Act.
• Be a resource to all WI Aging Units to coordinate services between statewide OAA & WEA Title III programs, the Area Agency on Aging (GWAAR), and Title VI programming.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with Tribal Aging Unit staff, advisory boards, and other community partners that will be able to assist in establishing OAA Title III and Title VI programming in each community.
• Work effectively as team member to accomplish TTAC & GWAAR three-year plan goals and GWAAR and GLITC agency projects. Upon request, assist other TTAC & GWAAR teams in accomplishing project goals as outlined in Area Agency on Aging three-year plan.
• Plan and facilitate effective meetings with customers and stakeholders, specifically the Tribal Aging Unit Association.
• Assist Tribal Aging Units and individuals to manage change in response to changing needs of customers and identification of unmet needs.
• Assist Tribal Elder Nutrition Programs in maintaining compliance by following policies, including coordinating and facilitating nutrition assessments.
• Assist Tribal Aging Units in maintaining compliance and a good use of funds by assisting in coordinating evidence-based health promotion curricula workshops and caregiver support programming within tribal communities.
• Present ideas and concepts orally and in writing to governmental policy and advisory boards or committees to advance the mission of the GLITC TTAC.
• Frequent travel to satellite offices, Tribal communities, and conferences is required.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities :

This is a full-time exempt opportunity working Mon-Fri 40 hours per week. The work location is Ashland, Wisconsin. This is not a remote position. This position is $52,000.00 annually with benefits including : Annual / Personal Leave and Holiday Pay; Health, Dental, Life & AD&D, STD and LTD Insurance, FSA and 401(k) Retirement Plan. Frequent travel is required. Background check required prior to employment.

Qualifications : An equivalent combination of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered. Required : An associate degree from accredited college in social work, sociology, human services, or equivalent. One year of experience in the human service field. Experience with a Native American Tribal organization and / or not-for-profit agency. Proven experience working as a member of a team. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations necessary. Individual must possess : excellent verbal and written communication skills; facilitation and conflict management skills, professional demeanor and appearance; excellent problem solving skills; ability to manage time effectively; ability to prioritize multiple projects; self-motivation skills; work effectively under pressure; ability to build positive work relationships with internal and external customers; ability to interact professionally with a wide variety of people; and ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to apply advanced reasoning skills to problem solving. Must have knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel and a capacity to learn other programs quickly. Must be well organized and able to work effectively with limited management direction. Must be flexible and able to respond to changing priorities and many interruptions. Must possess a valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation with adequate insurance and ability to travel on a constant basis. Preferred : Experience working with older adults.
