Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide. Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world. We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

Position Summary:

The Reliability & Quality Systems Manager is a hands-on subject matter expert who drives, corporate Quality Management System (QMS) initiatives and ensures product and process reliability across our manufacturing operations. This role serves as a neutral enforcer of standards, ensuring that processes, procedures, and outcomes consistently meet the highest levels of quality and reliability. The ideal candidate is a proactive go-getter who can lead and influence change in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with specific focus on rotary steerable systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Vendor Management & Supplier Reliability

- Establish and maintain a supplier quality management program, including audits, scorecards, and ongoing feedback. - Ensure engineering provides vendors with complete and accurate specifications, drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) to prevent errors. - Partner with Supply Chain to verify incoming materials meet requirements and to address vendor-related Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). - Implement a clear process for vendor corrective and preventative actions (CAPAs) and escalation when performance issues arise. - Build vendor relationships that support continuous improvement and long-term reliability of supplied components.

QMS Implementation & Process Enforcement

- Act as the primary on-site lead for QMS enforcement, ensuring documented procedures for assembly, disassembly, and testing are followed without exception. - Conduct random spot checks and process audits to verify compliance and provide immediate feedback. - Challenge outdated or inefficient processes and collaborate with engineering to update documentation.

Root Cause & Corrective Action (CAPA)

-Oversee and ensure completion of root cause investigations on all product failures and non-conformances (NCRs), verifying that findings are accurate, actions are implemented, and results are sustainable. - Oversee the CAPA process from identification through closure, ensuring corrective actions are effective and sustainable. - Work directly with shop floor personnel to document issues and develop actionable solutions.

Data-Driven Decisions

- Implement and manage systems for tracking key quality and reliability metrics, including scrap, rework, and failure data. - Develop and publish a monthly quality dashboard reporting trends and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) to corporate leadership. - Use data insights to identify high-risk areas and prioritize initiatives that strengthen reliability.

Cross-Site Collaboration & Leadership

- Serve as a bridge between Corporate QHSE, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain, ensuring alignment across all functions involved in product and process outcomes. - Reinforce adherence across all technology centers and manufacturing sites as part of the overarching reliability process, recognizing that consistent execution at every stage is critical to product success. - Mentor and train personnel on quality and reliability, promoting a culture of accountability, process ownership, and continuous improvement. - Champion a "no-blame" culture, where failures are seen as opportunities to strengthen processes. - Engage constructively with strong personalities, demonstrating how robust quality and reliability systems save time and improve results. - Ensure that this position's authority to enforce standards is recognized and supported at all levels, with leadership direction provided to secure alignment and accountability across sites.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to the Corporate Quality Manager. There are no direct reports for this role.

  • Proven track record in quality assurance or reliability within manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 or comparable QMS standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in oil and gas strongly preferred.
