Overview
Associate Engineer (Civil / Mechanical) at Orange County Sanitation District
This role performs engineering duties for wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems, serving as a Resident Engineer for major Capital Improvement Projects and supporting contract administration.
Responsibilities
- Act as Assistant Resident Engineer on CIP projects and Resident Engineer on smaller projects.
- Process Requests for Information (RFI) and Requests for Change (RFC); evaluate contractor progress payments monthly.
- Coordinate construction submittal and shop drawing reviews; interact with inspectors and O&M staff for field work.
- Lead progress and special meetings; produce accurate meeting minutes.
- Create Requests for Proposal (RFP); negotiate changes, issue Field Change Orders (FCO).
- Evaluate baseline schedules, monthly schedule updates, and Time Impact Analyses (TIAs).
- Formulate and evaluate design solutions during construction.
- Provide technical assistance in design, construction, commissioning, and closeout phases.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications; prepare engineering plan clarifications and changes.
- Ensure contract work meets requirements and regulatory standards; prepare administrative, technical, and budget reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, environmental engineering, or related field from an accredited institution.Two (2) years of increasingly responsible engineering experience.Valid California Class C Driver's License.Desirables
Experience designing wastewater treatment, conveyance, pipeline, and collection facilities.Experience administering construction projects on multi-million dollar pipeline and wastewater projects.Resident Engineer experience in construction and commissioning of wastewater treatment and conveyance facilities.Negotiating skills for resolving pending contract changes.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.Physical Demands
Mobility in an office setting and ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel to various sites.Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 35 pounds; occasionally up to 51 pounds with assistance.Capacity to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and climb ladders on level, uneven, or slippery surfaces.Environmental Elements
Office work with moderate noise; controlled temperature; no direct exposure to hazardous substances.Field work with exposure to noise, temperature extremes, weather, vibration, chemicals, and hazards; potential interaction with public staff.Application Deadline
