REPORTS TO : Area Manager

TYPE :

Full-Time; Non-Exempt

POSITION PURPOSE :

This position conducts preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment, and performs other related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION :

_Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following : _

1. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to this position.

2. Must be able to work in a team environment, working effectively with co-workers, supervisors and vendors.

3. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying worn and damaged parts.

4. Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion and completing winterization procedures.

5. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, and hydraulics; makes adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

6. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.

7. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.

8. Uses safety devices and PPE at all times.

9. Follows shop guidelines written or oral to promote safety and work procedures.

10. Does assigned repairs given out by Shop Foreman or Director.

11. Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

12. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies and performing preventive maintenance.

13. Contains costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options.

14. Accepts ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and explores new opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

15. Works varying shifts, weekends and holidays as workload and scheduling requires; diagnoses problems and make repairs in the field; works extended hours outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

16. Replaces main bearings without supervision.

17. Runs an overhead on an engine without supervision.

18. Performs engine overhauls without supervision.

19. Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications.

Maintain a variety of shop and repair records and logs.

Use various hand and power-driven shop tools.

Prepare and maintain clear and accurate reports.

Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE -

_Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be : _

Within the last 10 years, at least 2+ years as a Class C or Entry Level Mechanic 1 or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

3) Mack Basic Engine

4) Mack Basic Gear Train

Without Mack training, can substitute up to 3 classes with the following :

ASE Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests (A1 - A9)

A1 – Engine Repair (50 scored questions)

A2 – Automatic Transmission / Transaxle (50)

A3 – Manual Drive Train & Axles (40)

A4 – Suspension & Steering (40)

A5 – Brakes (45)

A6 – Electrical / Electronic Systems (50)

A7 – Heating & Air Conditioning (50)

A8 – Engine Performance (50)

A9 – Light Vehicle Diesel Engines (50)

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Work Environment :

Work is performed primarily in a shop environment; occasional field environment with some travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and / or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Travel

This position is required to respond to service calls on a regular basis. This primarily involves day travel within the local region. Occasionally may be asked to help in other company locations which may require overnight stay for one or more days.
