Housekeeping Supervisor

This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of the Sheridan VA HealthCare System, Sheridan, Wyoming. The Housekeeping Supervisor oversees the sanitation, infectious control operations of twenty-eight Housekeeping Aides and two Work Leaders seven days a week, including holidays.

Responsibilities include :

• Serving as the technical and administrative supervisor over staff in assigned work areas.
• Planning, coordinating, and directing a variety of related work operations or functions with minimum oversight.
• Providing training for subordinate staff on technical matters and ensuring subordinate staff meets all predetermined training requirements.
• Initiating oral and written counseling to members of his / her team on matters of performance and conduct.
• Initiating actions for awards and performance recognition.
• Monitoring the work of subordinate staff and performing quality assurance inspections; providing documentation of these inspections to service leadership.
• Maintaining proficiency in all matters to include equipment utilization, supply use, aseptic technique, hospital infection control, waste management, linen service, and workplace safety.
• Planning, scheduling, and organizing work assignments for subordinate staff.
• Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by higher level supervisors.
• Coordinating work with other supervisors and staff from other service lines for special projects management.
• Providing information and advice to higher-level management on such matters as ability to accomplish work assignments, budget estimates, changes in process techniques and standards, and supplies / materials requirements.
• Recommending promotion or reassignment of subordinates, setting performance standards, and making formal appraisals of their work performance.
• Giving advice, counsel, and instructions to subordinate staff on both work and administrative matters.
• Responsible for limited pest control services to include removing unwanted animals from inside the VA.
• Must conform with standards from CDC and JAHCO.
• Assists with the hiring process for new housekeeping aid staff.
