LEARN, the Regional Educational Service Center of southeastern Connecticut, invites candidates to apply for the full‑time Associate Instructor at The Friendship School in Waterford, Connecticut.
General Scope of Responsibilities
The Associate Instructor will provide direct educational services to our Pre‑K through Kindergarten students.
Relationship within the Organization
The Associate Instructor reports to the Principal and Assistant Principal.
Specific Responsibilities
Assist the teacher to identify long‑ and short‑term goals for individual students, the class, and the program.
Assist the teacher to prepare and maintain written plans as needed.
Assist the teacher in gathering and utilizing documentation of student work.
Assist the teacher to plan and implement individual and group activities (tiered instruction, academic and play‑based centers, circle time, technology activities, etc.) as needed.
Alert the teacher to any unusual events occurring with the students.
Provide and maintain a safe environment in which students can learn and interact.
Be responsible for appropriate behavior management of students.
Follow routine school, program, and organizational procedures.
Maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports within designated time limits.
Be sensitive to, and adjust as necessary to, differences among students and consider the overall well‑being of the individual students.
Handle personal information related to students in a professional and confidential manner.
Exhibit professional and ethical behavior.
Attend professional development activities as appropriate.
Perform other reasonable areas of responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to meet the unique requirements of the program and clients.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
Must have earned an Associate’s Degree (or higher), or achieve a passing score on the ParaPathways Assessment.
Child Development Associate (CDA) certification, or willingness to obtain a CDA, is required.
Experience working with elementary‑aged students is preferred.
