Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support vehicle-level testing of our ADAS and Autonomy features. The Autonomy Instrumentation Technician will join our Test & Development team working cross-functionally with engineers and technicians and will be responsible for test vehicle instrumentation and bring-up, robotic platform upkeep and operations, assist with ADAS and Functional Safety vehicle testing. The successful candidate will have a background in electronics, robotics and / or electric vehicle architecture and be organized, learn quickly and take pride in getting things done in a fluid environment.
Responsibilities
- Work with aftermarket data loggers, production telematics data collection, external data acquisition, sensors, systems, practices, and databases for vehicle measurement (thermal, strain, NVH, and digital networks, etc.)
- Execute Vehicle level design validation (DVP) testing in a proving ground environment
- Preliminary fault analysis and reporting (hardware and software)
- Plan and execute vehicle tests with a focus on instrumentation and data collection
- Liaison across multiple engineering departments
- Maintain detailed records of all work performed
- Install instrumentation, test equipment, and other components including thermocouples (Type J and K), strain gauges, accelerometers, and load transducers on prototype vehicles in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, and / or test procedures.
- Maintain test equipment in operational condition by performing routine maintenance and making minor repairs / adjustments as needed.
- Load and transport prototype vehicles to specified test locations as needed. (Class A is a plus)
- Create test documentation including test instructions, and specifications
- Drive vehicles to perform testing at Proving Ground environments
- Support off-site vehicle testing such as cold / hot weather, off-road, etc.
- Perform subjective evaluations to identify system failure modes
- Support root cause analysis for failures and issues on vehicles at the proving ground
- Public road driving of prototype and benchmark vehicles
- Closed course (proving ground) driving of prototype and benchmark vehicles
- Evaluation of vehicles upon commissioning
- Assist with ride and drive demos of customer vehicles (Marketing Events, Customer Trade Shows)
Qualifications
5+ years of technician work experience in the automotive industry. Electric / hybrid vehicle experience preferred.Strong automotive electrical understandingminor fabrication experienceHands-on experience with in-vehicle data acquisition and logging systems.Experience working hands-on with in-vehicle data acquisition systems including experiment design, installation, use, data analysis and detailed post-processing techniques.Direct experience working with CAN, LIN, and Ethernet vehicle data acquisition systems preferred but not necessaryStrong technical and mechanical ability.Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.Strong communication, multitasking, & inter-personal skills.Familiarity with issue tracking tools a plus. (Jira, Confluence) preferred but not necessary.Valid driver license with clean record.Proving grounds experience.Ability to sit / drive for up to 8 hours consecutively.Racing / professional driving background preferred.Willing to travel upwards of 25% of the time.Eye for detail with a focus on quality.Team first mentality.Experience with ground truth equipment (Oxford OXTS, Novatel, dGPS, Racelogic VBOX).A strong understanding of automotive electrical systems and communication protocols (CAN, Flexray, XCP, Ethernet, LIN) and relevant debug tools (Vector CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy, Python, etc.).Experience flashing and debugging vehicle systems.Excellent technical, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills.Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.Valid US driver's license.Preferred Qualities
Experience with steering, braking and acceleration robots, robot test targets, tow targets (Moshon, AB Dynamics, 4A, Messring, Humanetics) a plus.Experience with ADAS, autonomous vehicles, functional safety, regulatory testing, vehicle dynamics or a related field (ex.
