Summary
Under close supervision, as assigned, performs security work of routing difficulty in monitoring jail unit control and clerical work to include data entry and file maintenance of housed individuals.

Essential Job Functions
Maintains log of all inmate movement, meals, head counts, security checks, recreation time, persons entering and exiting the housing area, etc.Schedules pre-trial interviews and prepares court dockets for inmates in their assigned housing areas.Communicates and notifies detention officers when detainees are scheduled for initial Appearances on video systems.Answers telephones, takes messages for jail staff, and notifies the assigned housing officer of when and where an inmate needs to be moved.Maintains both confidential and public office files and records.Sorts inmate mail into specified housing areas for disbursement by the officer.Monitors control panels and all security cameras protecting doors and outside security perimeters.Monitors and maintains radio communications with detention officers on duty.Observes movement and location of personnel throughout the facility.Monitors and electronically operates all secured doors, allowing passage to only those personnel who have properly identified themselves.Controls and maintains sign-out logs of all keys and / or jail specified equipment requiring such records.Monitors detention officer movement throughout the facility and notifies appropriate staff of emergency situations.Assists with covering the Visitation Area when visitation staff are unavailable.Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge of applicable State, Federal and local laws, rules and regulations governing correctional institutions.Knowledge of principles and practices of record keeping and reporting.Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.Knowledge of proper English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.Knowledge of data entry and verification processes, bookkeeping and reporting principles, practices and methods.Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; Skill in operating modern office equipment and computer equipment; Skill in typing and data entry at a level sufficient for the position.Skill in effectively interacting with individuals and families from a variety of different economic, social, educational and ethnic backgrounds.Skill in effective communication verbally and in writing.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.Desirable Qualifications
High School Diploma or G.E.D.; AND valid driver's license; AND one year of experience in data entry, computer operations or other relevant clerical support experience; detention or law enforcement experience preferred, OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
