Job description

Academic MicroSurgeon–Plastic Surgeon within the #1 Ranked Health System in Indiana

The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in conjunction with IU Health Medical Group is seeking a Microsurgery-trained Plastic Surgeon to join its full-time academic faculty. The ideal candidate will have strong interest and expertise in microsurgical reconstruction, with a focus on oncologic reconstruction, complex extremity reconstruction, and lymphatic reconstruction. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a growing academic practice that emphasizes excellence in clinical care, resident and fellow education, and scholarly impact. Clinical responsibilities will include advanced microsurgical reconstruction using free tissue transfer techniques across the spectrum of reconstructive needs.

This opportunity also includes contributing to the expansion of clinical programs across the health system, and participating in collaborative, multidisciplinary care pathways. In addition, this position offers the opportunity to teach learners across a wide range of levels, including students, integrated and independent pathway Plastic Surgery residents, and a fellow seeking advanced microsurgery training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive microsurgical reconstruction services, including but not limited to oncologic reconstruction, lymphatic reconstruction, extremity reconstruction, and general reconstructive procedures.
  • Participate in shared call coverage within the Division of Plastic Surgery.
  • Collaborate closely with clinical care teams across Surgical Oncology, Breast Surgery, General Surgery, and Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Educate residents, fellows, and medical students through structured teaching and mentoring.
  • Engage in clinical or basic science research; support available for both surgeon-scientists and clinically focused faculty.
  • Support the Division's global surgery efforts through the AMPATH Global Program, if desired.

Clinical Sites

Primary clinical activities will take place at tertiary care centers within the Indiana University Health system, including the IU Health North, IU Health University Hospital, and IU Health Methodist Hospital. Outpatient care will be delivered through affiliated specialty clinics in suburban and urban locations, with access to advanced practice provider support and multidisciplinary services.

Qualifications

  • Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Plastic Surgery.
  • Completion of a Microsurgery Fellowship is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise and interest in teaching and academic development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence in clinical and academic environments.
  • Appointment and Rank

    Appointment will be on the clinical or tenure track based on qualifications and academic interests. Academic rank will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
