A Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) in Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services is a trained professional-often someone with lived experience of addiction and recovery-who provides peer-based support to individuals seeking or maintaining recovery. Here's an overview you can use for education, job descriptions, or documentation :

• Lived experience in recovery (typically 1- 2 years of sobriety preferred)
• Completion of a state-recognized Peer Support or Recovery Specialist certification
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles
• To provide emotional, social, and practical support to individuals recovering from substance use disorders, promoting long-term recovery and stability through peer mentorship, advocacy, and connection to community resources.

Offer peer mentoring and share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope.

Position Requirements :

Lived experience in mental health recovery to assist other adults in their mental health recovery.

Must be 18 years old

High School Diploma or GED

Travel and the use of a personal vehicle are required.

Must have a valid Texas Driver License and an acceptable driving record

Must pass background check and drug screening
