POSITION SUMMARY
The PCT is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities, as supervised and directed by the RN. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient-focused team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.
The PCT is required to demonstrate a willingness to work as a team member while providing quality care for patients and their families/significant others in accordance with the OSU Medical Center Customer Service Philosophy. The PCT must demonstrate the ability to focus team efforts on the most productive activities to provide quality nursing for psychiatric patients and their families/significant others.
Under the direction and supervision of the RN, the PCT assists with maintaining unit operations in compliance with hospital and regulatory agency standards, and in accordance with the established OSU Medical Center Customer Service Philosophy.
The PCT is responsible for:
Maintaining a therapeutic milieu
Reinforcing patient education
Maintaining safety
Emergency preparedness
Infection control
Information management
Reporting patients complaints of pain to the patient's assigned nurse
Implementing age-specific interventions
Reporting patient behaviors indicative of fall risk
Technical skills include recording and transmitting EKGs, specimen collection, phlebotomy skills, Accucheck, applying therapeutic holds and restraint in physical crisis situations, operating specialty beds, assistive equipment, and mechanical lifts and scales. The PCT performs clerical functions, as assigned.
Minimum Education Required
2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications
Associate degree in mental health technology and/or equivalent skills based on work and academic experience, and successful completion of designated portions of PCA training.
