As a new Risk Management Consultant Engineer, you will embark on a rewarding journey of learning risk engineering and consulting skills from seasoned mentors within a collaborative work environment. For the first 12 months, you will engage in a combination of field work, self-study, classroom instruction, and mock factory training. Our team of 1,900 loss prevention engineers, with diverse backgrounds in various engineering and fire protection disciplines, offers clients unparalleled, research-based consulting that enhances FM’s financial strength and policy coverage.

In this role, you will utilize your engineering prowess and problem-solving abilities to assist clients in identifying and neutralizing risks associated with fire, explosion, equipment breakdown, flood, wind, and other perils. As a Consultant Engineer, you will have a meaningful impact on helping clients safeguard their business futures.

Your responsibilities will expand as you assess risks at more complex properties by conducting visits to client facilities. In this capacity, you will :

  • Perform hands-on site assessments of the physical property, including facility interiors, rooftops, and exteriors.
  • Evaluate site water supplies, fire protection measures, dust hazards, electrical systems, chemical storage / processing, structural designs, construction materials, and emergency response programs.
  • Adhere to FM Engineering Standards and communicate relevant recommendations or engineering solutions to clients.
  • Support clients in implementing strategies to mitigate identified risks.
  • Work from a home office while traveling to client facilities on a daily basis, with overnight travel expected 3-5 nights per month (15-25% of the time).

Qualifications for Consultant Engineer candidates include :

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering (various specializations are welcomed).
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management capabilities with minimal supervision.
  • Solid technical expertise with a broad understanding of engineering principles.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Physical ability to climb ladders, access roofs, lift 25 lbs, navigate confined spaces, and walk 2-3 miles daily.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
  • Authorization to work in the country of application.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to a home office environment when not on-site.
