Job description

About the role

Picture your day starting on a clean, organized bench. You review a sketch and a print, pull material through our ERP, and choose the cutters, inserts, and workholding you’ll need. You bring a Bridgeport-style 3–4 axis VMC online, touch off tools, and then flip over to a 2–4 axis CNC lathe to rough and finish a mating part. Between cycles, you verify dimensions with micrometers (including depth and OD / ID gauges), adjust offsets, and refine feeds and speeds to hold tight tolerances. When a manual setup is faster, you move to the mill or lathe, drill press, sander, or grinder to get it done. Throughout, you practice 5S, follow lockout / tagout, and keep your area safe and orderly.

You’ll collaborate with engineers and production teammates, offering ideas that make our tooling safer, quicker to build, and more cost-effective. You’ll also keep an eye on machine health and address issues before they become problems. Some jobs arrive with minimal direction; you’ll rely on your judgement, blueprint fluency, and shop math to deliver precision parts and tooling that fit the spec the first time.

Core responsibilities

  • Independently set up, adjust, and operate CNC and manual equipment to machine and modify parts and tooling to specification.
  • Work from drawings, blueprints, sketches, and verbal direction to plan setups and select materials, workholding, and cutters.
  • Use micrometers (including depth), inside and outside diameter gauges, and other metrology to calculate and verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Apply shop math to determine offsets, stack-ups, and fits; tune speeds and feeds accordingly.
  • Practice 5S and lean habits; maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while adhering to lockout / tagout requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operators; suggest safer, more efficient, and more economical tooling approaches.
  • Monitor equipment condition and performance; troubleshoot and resolve operating issues.
  • Order raw materials and record work as needed within the ERP system.
  • Perform additional related tasks as needed to support delivery commitments.

What you bring

  • 1–3 years of hands-on machining experience (job shop / CNC exposure preferred); formal training or an AAS in an engineering discipline is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances and interpret complex blueprints and sketches.
  • Comfort with CNC tooling and manual machining; proficiency with CAD / CAM is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of speeds / feeds, tooling technologies, and safe setup practices including lockout / tagout.
  • Strong initiative, teamwork, and communication; a practical, shop-floor mindset.
  • Solid math skills; basic computer proficiency including MS Office; ERP familiarity for material requisitions.
  • Troubleshooting mindset—identify causes of errors and determine corrective actions; monitor gauges / dials to ensure proper operation.
  • Equipment you’ll run

  • CNC Mill (3–4 axis VMC) (Bridgeport)
  • CNC Lathe (2–4 axis)
  • Manual mills and lathes, drill presses, sanders, grinders, and supporting shop equipment
  • Physical requirements

  • Close vision for inspecting parts / tooling and reading precision instruments.
  • Lift, pull, or push up to 50 lbs during setup / teardown.
  • Stand 8–10 hours per day; frequent bending and reaching while setting up and checking measurements.
  • Compensation & growth

Compensation reflects skills, experience, training, certifications, and business needs. Grow your influence by partnering closely with engineering and operations to improve tooling and processes.
