Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Salary Range : $25.68 - $35.38

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary :

• Under the direction of the Physician or Nurse Manager, responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients in accordance with the standards defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Technicians, the American Nurses Association ( ANA ) and Lompoc Valley Medical Center.

Position Duties / Responsibility :

Assess patient’s general condition and takes vital signs.

Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriation information.

Documents all activities / interventions, patient / family responses, medication dispensed / prescribed, etc., in the medical record.

Administers prescribed medications.

Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care.

Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness.

May prepare equipment and aid physician during treatment, examination and testing of patients.

May be asked to act as a department resource and coordinate nursing care for patients.

Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice / instructions.

Maintains strict patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA.

Must thoroughly understand and follow established policy and procedure with regard to basic patient care.

Participates in department quality improvement, clinic safety, infection control and hazardous materials programs and activities.

May start and maintain intravenous fluid therapy or perform venous blood withdrawal. (Note : for IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California).

Exercises discretion and maintains high level of confidentiality.

Position Qualifications :

Education : Must have a valid license in the State of California as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with IV Therapy certification.

Experience : Pediatric nursing experience preferred.

Cert / License : A valid California nursing license. Current BLS certification by American Heart Association at time of hire. AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support and AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support a plus. For IV therapy administration and blood withdrawal must have completed the thirty (30) hour Basic IV program approved by the State of California.

LVMC reserves the right to modify the minimum requirements depending on the needs of the organization.

A minimum of one (1) to two (2) years LVN experience in a clinic setting is strongly preferred.
