Coho Integrated Solutions is seeking a skilled and dedicated Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) to provide exceptional patient care and technical expertise in the operation of diagnostic imaging equipment at the Northport VA Medical Center in Northport, New York. The DRT will perform a wide range of radiologic and computed tomography (CT) procedures to support diagnostic and treatment decisions for veteran patients. This role requires strong clinical proficiency, adherence to safety and quality standards, and a patient-centered approach aligned with the mission and values of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Diagnostic Radiologic Technologists may be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts based on departmental needs. Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations to ensure continuous imaging support for patient care. Flexibility to accommodate variable shift assignments is required.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to) :

  • Prepare patients for radiographic or sonographic procedures by assessing needs, explaining procedures, and providing pretest education and reassurance.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging examinations in accordance with departmental procedures, accurately locating and recording anatomical structures and internal elements.
  • Execute quality control measures to ensure optimal image quality; adjust equipment and patient positioning to eliminate artifacts and minimize radiation exposure.
  • Monitor patients during examinations for potential physical or emotional distress and report abnormal changes promptly.
  • Prepare and administer contrast agents following appropriate protocols and safety standards.
  • Evaluate images for clarity and diagnostic value, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Enter and maintain data in patient information systems, ensuring all tests are accurately logged and documented.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain imaging equipment and work areas according to established infection control procedures.
  • Identify and report equipment malfunctions; coordinate repairs or adjustments as needed.
  • Prepare and transmit digital images and reports via Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for interpretation by radiologists.
  • Practice and enforce safety protocols in radiography, radiation protection, and infection control.
  • Uphold the Code of Ethics of the radiologic profession in all interactions and procedures.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, tact, and emotional stability when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with veterans, families, staff, and supervisors.
  • Adhere to all VA facility and service-level policies, including infection control standards.
  • Document case delays in the medical record, specifying reasons and plans for completion.
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled work accurately and efficiently to maximize productivity.
  • Follow all national and local guidelines, including those of the VA National Health Physics Program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the department's mission and operations.

Essential Job Qualifications and Requirements :

  • Licensure and Certifications :
  • Must hold a valid state license to practice Radiologic Technology in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

  • Certified in General Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Advanced ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) required.
  • Certification in CT and Diagnostic X-ray required; MRI certification preferred.
  • Required Experience and Skills :
  • Demonstrated experience in performing a wide range of diagnostic radiology and CT procedures, including :

    Cross-sectional anatomy, 3D reconstruction, and interventional CT imaging.

  • CT exams such as cardiac CT, biopsies, drainages, and ablations (RFA, Cryo-Ablations, Microwave ablations).
  • General X-ray imaging (contrasted and non-contrasted) and tracking of reportable CT doses.
  • IVP, GI series, Modified Barium Swallow, barium and air contrasted barium enema exams.
  • Portable X-ray and C-arm procedures, including operating room and pain management cases.
  • Bone Densitometry (DEXA) imaging of spine, hips, and forearms.
  • Familiarity with contrast agents, sterile techniques, and handling of medical supplies and instruments.
  • Use of digital radiography (CR / DR) and PACS systems.
  • Knowledge and experience adhering to FDA, MQSA, and VA imaging safety standards.
  • Ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images used by medical officers for evaluation and treatment.
  • Strong understanding of magnetic resonance and CT physics, including safety principles for magnetic environments.
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Technical proficiency with modern imaging systems, including 320-slice and 64-slice CT scanners.

  • Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiographic positioning.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and patient care skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Position Pay Range

    $47.40—$87 USD
