Probate Job Description
Position Summary
Seeking an experienced Probate Paralegal (or paralegal experienced in other areas of law with transferable skills, such as Family Law Paralegal) with a strong background in supporting a sole practitioner or small firm. Ideally with drafting experience in guardianships, conservatorships, probates, and estate planning. J. Martin Esq., LLC is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The ideal candidate will support a sole practitioner attorney in all aspects of probate administration, trust administration, and estate planning matters, contested guardianships and conservatorship proceedings, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Position is NOT remote but may have some flexibility for partial remote work.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and file probate documents including petitions, inventories, accountings, and final distributionsManage guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, including filing initial petitions, annual accountings, and status reportsDraft estate planning documents including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directivesCommunicate with clients, court personnel, financial institutions, and other stakeholdersMaintain accurate and complete client files and case management systemsTrack case deadlines and ensure timely filings with probate courtsCoordinate asset valuations and prepare estate tax returns when neededAssist with trust administration and post-death distributionsSupport attorneys during client meetings and court hearingsQualifications
3+ years of experience as a paralegal specifically in probate, guardianships, conservatorships, and estate planning (or other areas of law with skills that are easily transferable, such as family law)Thorough knowledge of Oregon UTCRs, ideally probate administration and guardianship and conservatorship administrationProficiency in varied legal document preparation is a MUST!Familiarity with eFiling using the Tyler systemExperience with Oregon probate courts and proceduresStrong understanding of fiduciary accounting principlesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExceptional organizational abilities and attention to detailExperience with case management software and legal research toolsParalegal certificate or relevant degree preferredSkills
