Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Water Crew Leader or the Water / Wastewater Senior Crew Leader, as designated by the Director, this position performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment and tools in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of the City's water supply, distribution, or wastewater treatment facilities and systems and performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions :
- Performs and assists in a wide variety of routine, sometimes heavy, skilled, and semi-skilled duties related to the installation, operation, and maintenance of water mains, valves, services, meters, hydrants, and other water supply and distribution system facilities at frequent intervals.
- Replaces, repairs, and maintains water and wastewater
- Installs new water lines and wastewater
- Conducts maintenance and tests of fire hydrants; replaces fire
- Stocks vehicle with necessary
- Performs small plumbing jobs for City
- Maintains all city owned water distribution systems & wastewater collection systems .
- Completes work orders relating to water and
- Monitors lift stations and problem areas on a weekly
- Assists in maintaining water quality by taking water samples and maintaining proper operation of water treatment equipment.
- Responds to service calls regarding water quality, pressure, and
- Operates leak detection devices and pipe locating Inspect water meters and backflow devices for proper operations.
- Cleans and maintains all equipment and tools related to work on both the job site, and equipment.
- Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards
- Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, and tools including tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, compactors, concrete saws, jackhammers, chainsaws, compressors and numerous other types of light duty construction equipment and
- Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with citizens, businesses, outside agencies and city staff.
- Required to participate in the stand-by and / or call-out rotation to respond to problems after normal work hours, and on weekends and may be subject to call- out at any time when other call out personnel require additional assistance

Minimum Qualifications (KSAs) :
Knowledge of theory, principles, and techniques of municipal water and wastewater maintenance functions.Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local law, codes, and regulations governing the administration of water and wastewater functions and activities.Knowledge of safety procedures relating to water and wastewater operations.Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment within general policy guidelines.Ability to operate light and heavy-duty machinery and tools related to the job following safety protocols.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to operate all equipment, vehicles, and tools with skill and in a safe manner.May be required to work on weekends and / or evenings in support of special events and activities.Training and Experience :
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.Two (2) years of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair preferred.Any equivalent combination of education and experience.Licenses, Certificates, Special Requirements :
Valid Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain within one (1) year of employmentWastewater Collection Course Certificate (8 months to complete).Water Distribution Class 3 (required to obtain within 1 year of employment).Physical and Mental Demands :
