Executive Vice President of Development – Multifamily & Student Housing

Chicago, IL – Permanent, On-site

We are partnered with a nationally recognized Real Estate Developer specializing in large-scale Multifamily & Student Housing communities across major US markets. Known for its strong design identity, vertically integrated capabilities & forward-thinking culture, the firm is seeking an Executive Vice President of Development to lead its growing portfolio through all phases of the development lifecycle.

This is a high-impact leadership role offering the opportunity to shape the national pipeline, guide regional teams & play a critical role in executing complex, design-led projects that redefine the modern living experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end development strategy from site acquisition, due diligence & entitlement through construction, lease-up & stabilization
  • Oversee a national pipeline of high-density urban & mixed-use projects, managing budgets, schedules & design integrity
  • Build & mentor regional development teams, fostering collaboration across acquisitions, design, construction & asset management
  • Partner with institutional capital partners, joint venture investors & lenders to drive project feasibility & returns
  • Represent the organization in key markets, maintaining strong relationships with municipalities, consultants & industry stakeholders
  • Provide executive oversight of all active & upcoming developments, ensuring alignment with corporate vision & performance metrics

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in Development leadership roles within Multifamily, Student Housing or Mixed-Use sectors
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale projects ($100m+) in top-tier urban markets
  • Strong background in entitlement, design management, financial modeling & development execution
  • Deep understanding of capital structures, financing, and investor relations
  • Excellent leadership, communication & negotiation skills with a collaborative, growth-oriented mindset
  • Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Construction Management, Architecture, Finance or related field; advanced degree preferred
