Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is seeking a qualified lawyer to join as an Assistant Attorney General in the Farm & Freedom Division
The Farm & Freedom Division handles the Office of the Attorney General's most high-profile and complex civil litigation. Responsibilities include defending state laws and regulations, challenging federal government actions to ensure they stay within constitutional and statutory limits, and representing the state and its officers in significant civil cases. Recent cases involve defending Iowa's heartbeat law, suing the EPA over the Clean Air Act, and defending Iowa's tobacco and THC regulations.
Members of this elite team must be creative, motivated, and capable of managing complex litigation as part of a small trial team. The division's cases often have far-reaching implications beyond the immediate dispute, requiring lawyers to develop strategies from the outset to influence law for decades, potentially up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Attorneys may collaborate with the Solicitor General Division and participate in appeals to courts such as the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Benefits include a collegial work environment, flexible work-from-home options, excellent work-life balance, and comprehensive benefits. This position does not involve hourly billing.
