Public Works Utility Operator

Performs work involving the proper operation of trucks and / or specialized equipment used in the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Rotates into various job duties throughout the department to properly repair and maintain utilities in a safe and timely manner.

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Drives, operates and is responsible for the safe operation of specialized equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, track hoes, bulldozer, dump trucks, frontend loaders, and flush vac equipment.
• Independently performs assigned work specific to the water distribution and sewer collection system.
• Provides on-the-job training to lower level personnel and may be called upon to direct the work of other employees and crew members.
• Investigates citizen complaints and takes or recommends appropriate action, provides routine factual information or specific details to routine inquiries.
• Assists field crews with installation, repair, maintenance of the water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Other duties as assigned.
