Job description

Graduate Student Coordinator, II

This position will support the Department of Family and Consumer Studies, the School of Public Affairs, and the Health, Society and Policy program within the College of Social Behavioral Science.

Responsibilities :

  • Act as the primary contact for Family and Consumer Studies (FCS) graduate programs including MS and PhD in Human Development and Social Policy and MS in Financial Planning and Counseling.
  • Manage FCS curriculum management and proposal support.
  • Perform administrative tasks to support graduate students. Activities include, but not limited to, record-keeping, program of study coordination, scheduling, course-planning, graduation tracking.
  • Actively participate in campus-based professional development communities, including but not limited to GAPA or other relevant campus-based organizations that directly impact their position.
  • Duties include sub-committee participation.
  • Collects and disseminates information to students, faculty and departments about changes in degree requirements or University policies and adjusts advising strategies as appropriate.
  • May participate in search committees for new hires in department, including both staff and faculty roles.
  • Participates in programming communities for students within their area. Including, but not limited to activities such as overseeing a mentoring program, student organization, etc.
  • Advises on graduate committee development. May assign course-work for specific program of study. Provides curriculum feedback at the program level. May submit department curriculum changes to university-wide curriculum tracking.
  • Power user for University-wide application review platforms. Coordinate and organize admission portfolios for graduate committees.
  • Participates in recruitment activities for potential graduate student candidates. Processes graduate school applications and coordinates with graduate committees with any interview processes.
  • Acts in partnership with faculty to coordinate scheduling exams, or defenses. Assists students with developing a working relationship with faculty in the assigned program.
  • Participates in events management related to graduate programs, graduate student orientation, graduate conferences, and professional development events.
  • With increased institutional knowledge, acts as a resource for graduate student roles and is a liaison between the department and the Graduate School on campus.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2 years' of related experience.
  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills
