Join Express Appleton as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (PLC & Automation)

Pay : $27.00–$41.00 per hour

Shifts : 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weekend options available

A day in the life

  • Respond to breakdowns and perform scheduled maintenance to keep production moving.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
  • Use hand and power tools, meters, and material handling equipment to execute repairs.
  • Read and apply technical manuals, blueprints, and work orders to plan work.
  • Complete routine inspections and preventive maintenance on machines and facility systems.
  • Support building upkeep including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general repairs.
  • Spot and report abnormal conditions, faulty components, or material defects.
  • Safely operate forklifts, tow motors, and other lifting equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace at all times.
  • Represent the company professionally with team members and vendors.
  • Tackle additional assignments and projects as directed by leadership.

Your background

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year working with production or paper converting machinery (preferred).
  • 2+ years with PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley) and HMIs — or an associate degree / equivalent in electrical engineering technology or electronic systems.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, HVAC, and basic welding.
  • Comfortable with hand tools and precision measurement devices.
  • Basic computer and math proficiency.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter able to juggle multiple priorities independently.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willing to work varied shifts with on-call availability; occasional travel as needed.

    • Required certifications

  • Forklift certification (initial and renewal every 3 years).
  • Aerial lift certification (annual).

  • PLC troubleshooting, programming, and wiring (Allen Bradley).
  • Creating and executing preventive maintenance plans and inspections.
  • Reading electrical schematics and blueprints.
  • Electrical diagnostics and repair on 120 / 208 / 240 / 480V systems.
  • Motor installation, replacement, and maintenance.
  • Machine safety inspections and safe machine setups for production runs.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting from symptoms to root cause.
