Job Description

Keep our utilities running at peak performance

Use your technical know-how to keep facilities and equipment in optimal condition. In this role, you’ll perform operational checks and a full spectrum of maintenance—preventive, planned, and reactive—centered on a firetube steam boiler plant and the broader facility infrastructure.

Join a team that multiplies possibilities and unlocks exponential potential.

A day in the life

  • Start of shift : Walk the boiler room and utility areas; verify steam line pressures, gauge readings, pump status, and valve positions. Log readings and note any anomalies.
  • Morning : Conduct daily water quality tests under the guidance of the contracted Water Quality Engineer; adjust treatment to protect boiler, condensate, and feed water systems. Inspect steam traps and control valves for proper function.
  • Midday : Tackle facilities service requests—lighting, bathroom fixtures, locks, walls, bump posts, and safety signage—while coordinating with outside vendors for scheduled PMs and verifying their work quality.
  • Afternoon : Prepare boilers for inspection as needed—open and clean tubes and drums; replace refractory brick and burners. Perform repairs on valves, bearings, gauges, expansion joints, pumps, electrical controls, and PRVs.
  • Wrap-up : Record steam, water, and gas consumption; update the work order system and maintenance tracking software to capture PM attainment, reactive vs. planned work, hours, and parts / labor costs.

What you’ll take ownership of

  • Maintaining the core functionality of facility systems : boilers, compressors, chillers, water softeners, drainage systems, and the building infrastructure—measured by PM completion and the ratio of planned to reactive maintenance.
  • Leading root cause analyses when equipment fails and adjusting maintenance schedules to prevent recurrence.
  • Using maintenance software to document activities, service hours, and repair costs; making consistent, accurate entries to meet attainment goals.
  • Managing and inspecting vendor-performed PMs and repairs for quality and compliance.
  • Identifying upgrades that enhance efficiency, save energy, and reduce component wear.
  • Establishing predictive maintenance routines on critical assets to boost availability and reliability.
  • Continuous surveillance of fuel oil tanks for emergency diesel generator sets; performing routine tests of the emergency generator(s) on the prescribed schedule.
  • Adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Safely using hand / power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment; working safely around multiple allergens.
  • Qualifications

  • Education : Associate’s or technical school degree in Mechanics, Electrical, or Computer Science preferred; or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Experience : 5+ years working with high-pressure steam boilers in a manufacturing environment.
  • Licensing : Boiler Operator Certificate / License.
  • Technical skills

  • Hands-on troubleshooting and repair across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Welding proficiency and the ability to read mechanical, piping, and electrical schematics.
  • Competence in plumbing maintenance and repair within the facility.
  • Compressed air systems troubleshooting (Kaeser experience preferred).
  • Diagnose electrical issues from minor to complex, including motor starter circuits, VFDs, I / O switch functions, and equipment wiring.
  • Operate Hilo trucks, scissor lifts, and boom lifts and pass required Roskam testing.
  • Basic computer literacy, including Building Automation Systems (BAS).
