Overview
Provide design specialist staff augmentation support to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS). This position supports Safeguards and Security (S&S) design engineering activities, focusing on the design and development of physical security systems and facilities. The role involves advanced engineering analysis, field walkdowns, design development, and generation of design output documents using SRNS procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop designs for complex systems and prepare detailed technical reports.
- Participate in the development of design standards and perform technical reviews of design documents.
- Provide leadership and mentorship for design team members on highly complex tasks.
- Support design and engineering for intrusion detection, access control, CCTV, fiber optic, perimeter security, alarm monitoring, control stations, and entry control facilities.
- Apply NEC code requirements and advanced design principles to resolve field and construction issues.
- Perform walkdowns of construction sites, requiring mobility over uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and use of protective clothing when needed.
- Incorporate creative and innovative approaches to solve advanced technical challenges.

Required Qualifications
Education : Associate degree in a technical discipline and 12-14 years of experience, or 14-18 years of practical work experience.Experience :Minimum 14 years of recent safeguards and security design experience , emphasizing physical security systems.
Strong knowledge of sensors, door hardware, cameras, infrared detectors, access control readers, network switches, and fiber optic routers.In-depth understanding of engineering systems, materials, and construction methods.Proficiency in relevant computer applications.Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE 'Q' security clearance .Preferred Qualifications
Previous DOE or Savannah River Site (SRS) design engineering experience.Experience with DOE Electronic Safeguards and Security System (E3S) and Argus .Proficiency with MicroStation 2D CADD software.Candidates with an active or recent (within 2 years) DOE L or Q clearance are preferred.Work Schedule
Up to 40 hours per week; may use 5 / 8s, 4 / 10s, or 9 / 80 schedules. Overtime as needed to meet deliverables.
