Job Description
American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a 13-week Emergency Department night shift assignment in California, requiring a current CA RN license and strong competency in ER care.
Responsibilities
Position is in the Emergency Department of an acute care setting15-bed ER with 6-chair waiting area, averaging 120-130 patients per dayCertified Primary Stroke Center and designated to treat pediatric emergencies, with 10-12% pediatric populationPatient ratios are based on acuityRequired to work 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend scheduledMultiple shift options are available, but travelers will be scheduled for days, midshifts, or nights as determined by department needER utilizes Cerner and Meditech charting systemsCharge nurses do not take patient assignments and EMTs perform regular tech dutiesMonitor tech available who also serves as unit secretary; RNs must be able to read cardiac stripsRN staff are responsible for drawing their own labsVentilator patients cared for in the unitNo floating outside the Emergency Department is requiredFloor-specific orientation comprised of 2-3 shifts on the unitDuties include management of a broad spectrum of emergency presentations including stroke, STEMI, trauma, and pediatricsMedication scanning is required for all RNs, with high compliance expectedNurses are required to perform their own lab draws due to lack of an IV teamSecurity presence is maintained 24 / 7 in the ER lobbyScrub attire is navyFirst-time traveling nurses will be consideredHoliday coverage may be required as neededTravelers may not have been employed full or part time by CommonSpirit / CHI / Dignity facilities within the last yearRequirements
Active and current CA RN license required at time of considerationMinimum 3 years of recent ER nursing experience requiredCertifications required : BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and proof of COVID vaccinationPreferred certification : TNCCExperience with Cerner and Meditech EMR systems is a plusMust provide at least two recent professional references, including one supervisor reference from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from the last 3 yearsValid driver’s license requiredMust be able to successfully pass medication scanning protocolsTravel experience preferredBenefits
