POSITION SUMMARY:

Working in our manufacturing plant, our Glass Cutters are vital to the success of our business. Your role will be to ensure our products maintain the highest level of quality our customers expect. At Associated Materials, we believe excellent results begin with you!

The Glass Cutter operates a computer-driven machine that cuts the glass to specification, using an automated mechanism to load the glass and cut to size. They are responsible for removing the cut pieces of glass from the cutting table and slotting them into the correct cart while discarding any excess glass. Quality checks for any imperfections in the glass and safety awareness for oneself and coworkers around glass are required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Enter scheduling information into the computer and selects the glass panes to be cut and automates the cutting mechanism
• Follow instructions on monitors, selects and places cut pieces of glass in the correct cart and discard the excess glass
• Ensure clean cutting table after each sheet is complete. Keep the workspace well-maintained and completing other housekeeping duties in your area
• Maintain all safety standards. Ensure full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times
• Other duties as assigned, including cross-training to become proficient across multiple positions and production lines.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in an assembly-line or manufacturing environment
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Must have good hand /eye coordination and gripping strength
• Ability to lift up to 50lbs occasionally and 15-30lb frequently during the shift
• Must be able to work a 40-hour work week, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
• Must be able to use, understand, and thoroughly read a tape measure
• Ability to read a tape measure to 1/16th of an inch
• Ability to read and comprehend English language
• Be flexible and willing to learn, including cross-training and developing in other areas in the plant

Work Environment

The atmosphere is that of a manufacturing plant. The position will primarily work where moving machinery produces noise. Employees must wear Personal Protective Equipment that is issued for that location. Temperature can range from extreme cold to extreme heat. Physical demands may include standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, climbing, pushing/pulling, forward bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, postural balancing, manipulating, trunk rotation, handling, gripping, and talking (hearing).
