About The Position

Must-Have : Labor experience with cervical exam and FSE / IUPC placement

Description :

Unit has a 50-mile radius rule.

The unit has 4 labor and delivery beds.

C-sections are performed in the unit, with staff responsible for pre-op, circulating, and post-op care.

There are 2 triage beds and semi-private rooms.

The unit has 6 postpartum beds with 3 additional swing beds on the pediatric side.

There are approximately 1 birth per day, 30-50 births per month, and around 450 births per year.

AWHONN guidelines for ratios are followed when possible.

Common diagnoses include normal vaginal deliveries, repeat c-sections, preeclampsia, diabetes, and inductions.

Staffing includes 1 RN in the nursery, 1 RN for postpartum, 2 RNs for labor, and 1 RN for pediatric / GYN.

RNs are required to titrate drips, which include Pitocin, insulin, and heparin.

There is a charge nurse on duty around the clock who also takes an assignment.

There are no nurse aides or surgical techs on the unit; the main OR supplies a surgical tech and first assist for all cases.

After hours and on weekends, surgical techs are on-call.

Anesthesia is available on-site 24 / 7.

All vented patients are transferred to the CCU as there is no RT equipment on the unit.

There are no Tele / Monitor Techs on this unit, and RNs are required to read their own strips.

The EFM system in use is CPN.

Self-scheduling is primarily through block scheduling.

Weekend requirements consist of every other weekend.

There are group holiday requirements.

There is no call or standby requirement.

There is no floating requirement.

Scrub color is designated as purple hospital-laundered scrubs.

The charting system in use is EPIC.
